Sign Language Learning

It has been a while since I have shared our learning on here. A number of you expressed your want for our Class Blog to continue at out Goal Setting Conversations earlier in the term and I am listening.
So it is my my goal to share our learning with you more regularly. 😊

I would like to start by sharing a few of the things we are learning in detail through New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). We are lucky to have one of our students learning NZSL from Kelly Quirke (A NZSL tutor based in Cambridge) at school with a small group of students.
Last term I began learning NZSL with Kelly also and loved it so much, I'm back taking another of her classes this term too!
My intention with this is to broaden our understanding of how we can use different forms of language to communicate, starting in Room 1, then branching out further within the school.

Here is the link to the NZ Sign Language song that we have been learning. It's a beautiful song and the children have been working hard to learn it. Some of the class challenge themselves by turning away from the T.V. screen as it is playing so they are Signing from memory.
So far they have shared it within the Junior Singing Assembly.

We have also been learning the alphabet,

Numbers up to 31 to help us with the date,

and Colours in both Te Reo Maori and NZSL - these are about to go up on our Sign Language mix and match wall in the classroom.

Feel free to come in before or after school and match them up yourselves or with your child.
